Your dream gourmet coffee maker is out there, waiting for you. But will you know it when you see it? The term "gourmet coffee maker" can incorporate any number of various styles and types of coffeemakers.
Let's clarify this straight from the beginning: gourmet coffee makers do not need to be expensive. Some of the best coffee is made hands-on using only cheap and simple products. At the other end of that spectrum there are deluxe automatic coffee makers that produce commercial quality espresso and cappuccino in addition to coffee.

The coffee press is among the simplest possible ways that you can make your own coffee at home. Cutting out all forms of excess parts or machinery, and not including any electronics or accessories, the coffee press allows you to focus on what counts: great tasting coffee without any unneeded frills. A coffee press makes a fantastic home coffee maker.
Bodum makes a variety of coffee presses, all of which are loved by the consumers who use them and come very highly recommended. There is the Bodum Young Press 34-Ounce coffee press, featuring black and red trim or assorted other color schemes. It has a glass beaker and a steel plunger and costs about $30.
The Bodum New Kenya comes in a handful of different series, including 34 ounce, 17 ounce and 12 ounce. The New Kenya coffee press has a curved plastic frame and a heat resistant glass beaker, prices range from $15-$30.
Other Bodum gourmet coffee maker presses include the Brazil 8 Cup and the Chambord 12 ounce which has a chrome plated glass carafe. The Chambord also comes in a 3 cup size and a 12 cup size.

The Aerobie Aeropress has a unique design and operation. It is extremely well liked and helps prove yet again that a gourmet coffee maker need not be outrageously expensive. It costs only $25. As opposed to other coffee presses, you do need a filter for this.
Chemex coffee makers are also very popular by those who like a more hands on and natural approach to coffee making. A Chemex coffee maker consists of just one heat resistant piece of glass.
There is an air channel that allows displaced air to leave without intruding on the filtering process. It's essentially a glass flask combined with a glass funnel. There are many different sizes available, none of which cost more than $40. It's truly as simple as physically possible.
If simple just isn't your style, than there are many gourmet coffee makers that combine every available bell and whistle available. These automatic coffee and beverage systems can make anything you want and do it at an extraordinary quality. Delonghi makes many good commercial quality gourmet coffee makers, as does Jura-Capresso.
Gourmet Coffee Maker is Only as Good as the Coffee You Use
After all of this discussion, let's not forget that a gourmet coffee maker is only going to be as good as the coffee that you use with it. If you buy cheap, instant coffee than even the best gourmet coffee maker isn't going to be able to fully redeem it. Be sure to keep your coffee in an air tight container at all times, and buy as fresh as you can.
The combination of a great coffee and a top level gourmet coffee maker will provide a satisfaction that few other things in life can.

I’m a big fan of the coffee press from Planetary Design, indestructible, unlike the Bodums, and keeps the coffee warm for 2hrs+. Works well camping too, which is nice.

The Planetary Design coffee presses are very popular, that’s for sure. All of the Bodum coffee presses I’ve ever used however have seemed quite sturdy and have lasted for the long haul.
