The biggest trend in home and office coffee makers is the pod coffee maker. Coffee maker pods are popular for a variety of reasons, all of which add value, convenience or flexibility.
Coffee maker pods are quick and easy to use. You will get your coffee brewed in just a moment, in some cases literally in less than a minute. Since all of the coffee is prepackaged in single serving sizes, you will never have to worry about inconsistent coffee strengths, or the hassle of measuring coffee grounds and then cleaning filters.
Additionally, now more than ever they provide a great array of different coffee brands and flavors, allowing you to enjoy any kind of coffee or other hot beverage - including cappuccino, espresso and tea - from the comfort of your home or office. Everybody in your house or office can instantly make their own favorite, regardless of what anybody else wants or when they want it.
Pod Coffee Maker Brands
I've covered some of the most popular coffee maker pods in the past. The Keurig coffee maker and the Tassimo coffee maker are the two most widespread the two most unanimously enjoyed. You can read more about each of those pod coffee maker brands on their respective pages.
A quick overview shows that Keurig makes a great sampling of coffee maker pods in affordable price ranges, and their pod coffee makers work with many popular coffee brands. Tassimo coffee makers have a more limited selection, but on the positive they have an exclusive arrangement for Starbucks coffee pods.
Bunn makes a Commercial Grade Pod Brewer that can brew up a fresh cup of great tasting coffee in under 30 seconds. It's pricey for a home coffee maker at between $350-$450, but it's a high quality product. The Bunn MCP1 My Café is a single serving pod coffee maker. It comes in at under $300, can brew coffee in any size from 4 to 12 ounces and has a 46 ounce water reservoir.
The Cuisinart Commercial 1-Cup Coffeemaker is a much cheaper pod coffee maker. It brews an 8 ounce cup of coffee in about three minutes. It only costs $30 and works with standard 1 cup coffee maker pods. The same basic model is also available as a Cuisinart 2-cup coffee maker costing $55 which has room for two mugs to be brewed into at once.
The Mr. Coffee SL13 Home Café single serving coffee maker also can handle two mugs at once. It has a similar price of about $60 as the Cuinsart 2-cup coffeemaker mentioned above. The Melitta MES5B Single Serve Brewer has a 40 ounce water reservoir and can brew coffee in three different sizes or strengths. The Melitta pod coffee maker also will cost around $60.
Choosing Between the Coffee Maker Pods
How in the world are you supposed to make a decision between each type of pod coffee maker? The first thing you have to consider is price. The Cuisinart, Mr. Coffee and Melitta models are all very cheap. The upper tier of Keurig and Tassimo coffee maker pods are more expensive, but everyone who uses them loves them. Plus, a smaller Keurig pod coffee maker has an equivalent enough price to the cheaper varieties.
Keurig and Tassimo also produce their own exclusive line of coffee maker pods, and have arrangements with other brands and beverage varieties. If you want to ensure you love your pod coffee maker, I'd recommend a Keurig or Tassimo, although the others offer great price and function as well.
